Lorna M. Johnson is a medical midwife, health expert, business leader, and community advocate. She started and runs the Advanced Family Care Medical Group in East Los Angeles, which is a multi-service practice in women’s, pediatric and family medicine. Founded in 1995, Advanced Family Care Medical Group provides critical medical services to thousands of families in the underserved communities of the Los Angeles area. Lorna hosted the African First Ladies while they were in the U.S. for the 2013 African First Ladies Health Summit in Los Angeles.
A proud American citizen of Jamaican-Cuban heritage, Ms. Johnson is not content to rest on her success. She is a dedicated philanthropist who is committed to public service. In 1999, Ms. Johnson founded Compassion for Teen Life, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-income children and their families in California and Jamaica supportive services focused on living healthy lifestyles and the importance of continuing their education. She further maintains the commitment of public service in her appointment as the Honorary Consul General for Jamaica in Los Angeles. This role provides Ms. Johnson with a unique international perspective on health care and business development, which is further supported by her past appointment as the last Secretary to the Los Angeles Consular Corps. The self-made, serial entrepreneur and real estate investor was appointed by President Obama to Kennedy Center President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts and was a committee member on President Obama’s National Health Care Advisory Committee. She was the national Surrogate to former US Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton. In spring 2017, she was appointed as the Assistant Treasurer of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
