Conference attendees are invited to attend and worship special Diaspora church services being scheduled on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of July. Organized in collaboration with the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches, the morning services will be joyful occasions for visiting Jamaicans to gather with Jamaicans at home for worship as we ask for continued blessing for members of the Diaspora and give thanks for the Diaspora’s consistent contribution to nation building and their fellow Jamaicans.
OPENING CEREMONY AND GOVERNOR GENERAL’S ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
This year, the esteemed Governor General’s Achievement Awards has been merged with the Opening Ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony is a glittering, formal celebration to officially open the conference and attended by Conference participants, and other special invitees. The Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, MP will formally open the conference.
The Governor General’s Achievement Awards are presented every two years to exceptional individuals selected from nominees from the Diaspora who have excelled in community service in Jamaica or where they reside. His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen Governor-General will make the presentations to this year’s Awardees and will address the gathering.
The Opening Ceremony and Governor-General’s Awards will be broadcast live to a local and international audience, and will be followed by a Welcome Reception in the verdant gardens of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS
Following the days of key discussion, there are a number of special events scheduled each evening for conference participants to relax and enjoy the entertainment offerings of the capital of Kingston. The hospitality programme will culminate with a special closing ceremony and event attended by conference participants and special guests. Ending the conference on a high note ahead of the Diaspora Day of Service activities.
