How do I join the Ministry?

There are various career opportunities in the Ministry for, foreign service officers, secretaries, accountants, records clerks, administrators, IT and human resource specialists.

Persons interested in joining the Foreign Service should submit a letter of application accompanied by a resume to:

How do I get a scholarship to study abroad?

Persons seeking scholarships to study abroad should contact the Scholarships and Assistance Unit of the Ministry of Finance and Planning, located at 30 National Heroes Circle, Block G, Kingston 4.

Does the Ministry issue visas?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade does not issue visas. However, the Ministry, through its Protocol Department, facilitates the processing of visas to officials travelling overseas on official Government business.

What is the procedure to authenticate a document?

The following should be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade:

v Original document

v Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) or a Jamaican Driver’s Licence with TRN.

What is the cost to authenticate a document?

Regular Service : the cost is J$500 per signature. and processing time is five (5) business days.
Express Service: the cost is J$750 per signature and processing time is three (3) business days.

N.B. The date of submission of the document is not included in the processing period. Documents should be submitted before 3:30 p.m.

What am I to do if I am stranded in a foreign country?

Contact the nearest Jamaican High Commission, Jamaican Embassy or Consulate (see under Missions).
Please note that If there is no Jamaican High Commission, Embassy or Consulate, contact should be made with the British High Commission.

Am I allowed to take pets into Jamaica?

Yes, but a permit is required from the Veterinary Services Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Applications should be submitted through the website: www.moatrade.gov.jm
