Jamaica Welcomes Eight New Foreign Representatives

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, accepted copy Letters of Credence from seven Ambassadors-designate and one High Commissioner-designate, today (Monday, February 6) at the Ministry’s Headquarters in New Kingston.

The presentations, which form part of the Ministry’s Diplomatic Week activities, accredit the diplomats as non-resident Ambassadors and High Commissioner to Jamaica.

The Minister, in welcoming the designates, used the opportunity to congratulate them on their accreditation to Jamaica, and to extend the hope that the week of activities would create new ties and strengthen the links between Jamaica and their respective countries.

The Ambassadors-designate represent the countries of Finland, Ireland, Morocco, The Netherlands, Sudan, Sweden and Switzerland while the High Commissioner represents Bangladesh.

Diplomatic Week activities continue with a Welcome Reception hosted by the Foreign Minister this evening. Briefings by the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and four Government Ministers follow tomorrow and Wednesday, while the Diplomatic Dinner will be hosted by Their Excellencies The Governor-General and Lady Allen later this week.
