Jamaica’s Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith heads a delegation of Ministry officials now at the 47th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS), from Monday, June 19 to Wednesday, June 21 in Cancun, Mexico.
Foreign Ministers of OAS Member States have convened at the 3-day meeting under the theme “Strengthening Dialogue and Concerted Action for Prosperity”.
This year’s Assembly, where Member States decide on the general action and policy of the Organisation, will take the form of three Ministerial Panels, under the themes; Integral Development and Prosperity in the Hemisphere; Rule of Law, Human Rights and Democracy and Multidimensional Security.
Minister Johnson Smith addressed her colleague Ministers yesterday, Monday June 19, presenting on Opportunities and Challenges to the Leadership of Women in the Americas. The Minister will also address the panel today, Tuesday, June 20 under the theme: Multidimensional Security.
His Excellency Luis Almagro, OAS Secretary General, will host Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Delegation at a working breakfast to discuss issues of relevance to CARICOM, including the impact of the reduced OAS budget on the region; human rights; crime and security; trade and investment and other development issues.
Foreign Ministers are also expected to resume the suspended Consultation Meeting on Venezuela in the margins of the Assembly.
The Jamaican delegation includes Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the OAS, Her Excellency Audrey Marks and other Ministry officials.
