Possible Jamaican Casualties in Orlando Shooting

Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, who is overseas on official travel, has been monitoring the developments related to Sunday morning’s tragic shooting within the confines of the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

The Minister is advising that the Jamaican Consulate General in Miami has received unconfirmed reports that at least two (2) persons who are believed to be Jamaican nationals were casualties in the attack. However, efforts are underway to confirm these reports.

Mr. Franz Hall, Jamaica’s Consul General (CG) explained that “checks are being done through the Office of Foreign Missions and also the hospitals in Orlando, in an effort to confirm these reports.”

Senator Johnson Smith has instructed the Consul General to remain in touch with the community and its leaders to provide support where possible.

In reiterating the sense of outrage at the violent attack, the Minister has again expressed appreciation to the Jamaican Diaspora, including Wayne Golding, Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board Member, South East USA for its close communication with the Jamaican Consulate in Miami.
