Your Excellency, Mr. President,
Your Excellency, the Secretary General Distinguished delegates, observers, all Good afternoon.
Let me on behalf of the Jamaican delegation, warmly congratulate you Mr President, on your assumption of leadership of the Assembly during this 22nd Session. We are confident that with your able guidance, the work before us will be efficiently managed and effectively executed. Allow me also to express our appreciation to your predecessor, His Excellency Helmut Tuerk of Austria, for guiding us successfully through the Agenda of the 21st session of the Assembly.
I extend a warm welcome to all delegates – to those who are visiting our shores for the first time, as well as those who are returning. At the Vin d’Honneur last Wednesday, I was delighted to have had the opportunity to personally welcome many of you to Jamaica, and to express my pleasure at your attendance at this Assembly. I was particularly pleased to learn that many of you are regular participants in the ISA General Assembly, coming to Jamaica for successive years. It has always been our delight, as host of the International Seabed Authority, to welcome you all to our shores. We look forward to your continuous return in the years ahead.
