Our Honorary Consuls

The Government of Jamaica has a network of Honorary Consuls who are an important part of the Ministry’s work across the globe. They provide consular services to assist Jamaicans and non-Jamaican citizens and help to promote Jamaica in the cities where they have jurisdiction. Jamaica has network of 80 Honorary Consuls worldwide. Honorary consuls are either Jamaican citizens who are permanent residents or citizens in the country where they are appointed or they are nationals of the country. Honorary Consuls are appointed subject to certain terms and conditions, including the fact that they must report to the Jamaican embassy, High Commission or consulate-general that is accredited to the country where they are located. In addition, they are not paid a salary for their services and the position is therefore non-pensionable. They have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide consular services to Jamaican citizens including passport, citizenship and notarial services and
  • Provide general information to the Jamaican community specific to their needs and to the public at large
  • Provide support to Jamaicans visiting the country or region where they are located
  • Provide emergency assistance to distressed Jamaican citizens
  • Issue visas and provide general advice to foreigners who wish to visit Jamaica
  • Promote the trade, investment, tourism and cultural potential of Brand Jamaica in their location
  • Support the local Jamaican community efforts
