As part of its continued efforts to streamline the service delivery to the Diaspora, State Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. met with officials from the Department of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies (DCFS), the National Education Trust (NET) and the Health and Wellness for Life Foundations (HWLF) on Tuesday, January 8 at the Ministry’s New Kingston Offices.

The meeting is the latest in a series aimed at addressing the issues and concerns of the Jamaican Diaspora. It also served to develop and strengthen the partnerships with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS) involved in the facilitation process between charitable individuals and organisations and the recipients of such charity.

“Interactions with the Diaspora indicate that they have challenges getting their donations to their intended destinations in Jamaica,” stated the meeting’s chair, Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., Minister of State with responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, in the Foreign Ministry.

Noting that each organisation had particular procedures for charitable donations on their respective websites, Senator Charles advised, “that an expected outcome of the consultations would be compilation of a single document in the form of a brochure that would highlight the procedures for each organisation. This would go far way in improving the mechanisms for philanthropic donations.”
