JOHNSON SMITH TO PARTICIPATE IN G20 FOREIGN MINISTERS MEETING

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is to arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Sunday, May 20 to represent the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting.

Commenting on the scheduled meeting, Minister Johnson Smith said “The G20 is a grouping which controls more than 80% of the global economy and a forum which addresses the international community’s most pressing challenges. Participating in these meetings therefore provides a new platform within which we can use Jamaica’s voice in the region’s engagement with our global counterparts. We deeply appreciate the inclusive approach of the government of Argentina which issued this invitation and has provided this opportunity under their Presidency.”

Minister Johnson Smith explained that matters on the agenda include Multilateralism and global governance as well as fair and sustainable development. She added that matters of great priority to the region such as climate change, resilience and the graduation of middle income countries would fall within these areas.

Minister Johnson Smith travelled to Buenos Aires from Madrid, where she was participating in an Official Visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
