Coordination and Consultations at the National Level

The formulation of Jamaica’s foreign trade policy and coordination of its implementation falls within the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in consultation with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies such as the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC) and its Departments and Agencies, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining (MSTEM), Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Finance and Planning, the Jamaica Customs Agency, Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, Ministry of Youth and Culture, Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Trade Board Ltd., the Attorney General’s Department, and the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN).
The private sector, particularly through its umbrella organizations, also plays a pivotal role in the formulation and implementation of foreign trade policy and negotiation of trade agreements. In recognition of the sector’s central role in economic growth and development, the Ministry places great emphasis on its partnership with this sector. The civil society organizations are also involved in the formulation of foreign trade policy.
