The Ambassador-designate for Cuba to Jamaica, Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández (right) presented her Copy Letters of Credence to Ambassador Marcia Gilbert Roberts, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (left) on Monday, October 30 at the Ministry’s Dominica Drive address.
Mrs. Fernández who served most recently as Ambassador to The Gambia, thanked Jamaica for its support of Cuba through the years, making specific note of the annual UN Resolution, which calls for the US lifting of the US-placed economic, commercial and financial embargo on Cuba.
Cuba and Jamaica will in December observe the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. This year also marks the twentieth year of the bilateral cooperation programmes in health and education, with over 200 Cuban professionals currently working in the Jamaican health sector and 59 Cuban educators, most of whom teach the Spanish language.
Both the Permanent Secretary and the Ambassador-designate expressed hope of increased bilateral cooperation between the countries during the Ambassadors tenure of office.
