Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade ( left) received a Courtesy Call on Wednesday, January 31 from His Excellency (H.E.) Alejandro Ortiz, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica ( right) at the Ministry’s New Kingston offices.
The officials discussed: the Treaty of San José which allows for cross border patrolling to address region-wide drug-trafficking, sports training and academic exchanges, particularly in language acquisition.
The Jamaica-Costa Rica Joint Commission, which is scheduled to have its third meeting, since its 1992 inception, in the second quarter of 2018, will provide an opportunity to carry forward dialogue in these and other issues.
Jamaica and Costa Rica established formal diplomatic relations on July 21, 1971.
