The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will deepen its longstanding partnership with the Ministry of Health through collaboration with its charitable organisation, The Health for Life and Wellness Foundation, with a view of improving community healthcare across Jamaica.
The initiative which is being executed under the Adopt A Clinic Programme, will see the Foreign Ministry serving as a conduit between the Diaspora and Friends of Jamaica and the Foundation, to ensure the efficient and effective logistical support of donor engagement.
At a recent meeting, Minister of State with responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, Senator the Honourable Pearnel Charles Jr. as well as representatives from the Health for Life and Wellness Foundation and the Diaspora Affairs Department in the Ministry, welcomed the collaboration, noting that, “our goal must be to create an easy path for the right persons to give support to the right places.” The Minister further suggested that persons seeking to make donations should first contact the nearest Jamaican missions overseas to be apprised of the correct procedures”.
In emphasizing the need for a more structured system, Coordinator of The Health For life and Wellness Foundation Ltd, Mr. Courtney Cephas drew attention to the Foundation’s draft strategic plan, a framework which outlines the basis by which it will operate in facilitating and mobilizing resources received from the Diaspora.
The Adopt A Clinic Programme is a strategic initiative that seeks to proactively leverage the philanthropic support of the private sector and Diaspora to play a more critical role in improving the Primary Health Care System.
