Foreign Minister Receives Award of Excellence in Morocco

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade was among a group of seven international leaders awarded a Gold Medal during the Crans Montana Forum on Africa and South-South Cooperation in Dakhla, Morocco on Saturday, March 18.
The Gold Medal is a high-profile honorary distinction that recognizes the efforts and initiatives of the recipients toward a more humane world.
“I feel truly honoured and humbled to receive this award. It has left me inspired to work hard to promote the interests of developing states, including Jamaica, with a view to creating a peaceful and prosperous world,” said Senator Johnson Smith.
Held under the theme “Towards the New Africa of the 21st Century: Stability, Cohesion and Solidarity for Sustainable Development: The Structuring Role of Morocco in Africa,” the Crans Montana Forum was attended by nearly a thousand participants from 36 European countries, 27 American states, 44 African countries and 43 states from Asia and Oceania.
Senator Johnson Smith was among a select number of delegates invited to speak in sessions on the Integration of Women in the Economic and Political Framework as well as the panel on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Among the other topics discussed during the three-day forum which ended on March 21 were food security, sustainable agriculture, public health, renewable energies, management of natural resources and maritime industry.
The Crans Montana Forum was organized under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco at Dakhla to discuss vital issues concerning Africa and cooperation among developing countries.
