The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has expressed sadness and regret at the passing of Mr. Delano Franklyn, who served as Senator and Minister of State in the Ministry, over the period 2002 to 2007.

Minister Johnson Smith said, “On behalf of the Ministry, I convey to the family, friends and colleagues of former Senator Delano Franklyn, the staff’s sincere and deep condolences. He is well remembered as serving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade with the same vigour he took to other areas of national endeavour.”

Johnson Smith noted that as State Minister, Mr. Franklyn was assigned responsibility for Diaspora Affairs and was also charged with the Ministry’s early association with the then emerging CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

“I am advised that he supported efforts to promote the CSME and the regional integration movement, engaging with national stakeholders to provide information on the changes and opportunities of CSME implementation, ” she said.

Minister Johnson Smith further noted, “During his tenure, the Ministry’s efforts to formalize its engagement with the Jamaica Diaspora also took on added impetus, with dedicated outreach to many communities which had a significant Jamaica presence.  He was the lead minister during the historic Diaspora Conferences of 2004 and 2006. He served with distinction.”

May his soul rest in peace!
