Effective July 1st 2016, Jamaica has assumed the Chairmanship of the CARIFORUM for one (1) year.
In preparation for her assumption of the Chairmanship of CARIFORUM at the Ministerial level, Mr. Percival Marie, Director-General of the Caribbean Forum of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States (CARIFORUM) Directorate, based in Georgetown, Guyana, visited Kingston and briefed, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of the Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, on June 30th, 2016.
As Chair of CARIFORUM, Jamaica will be leading the fifteen (15) Member Group at intra-CARIFORUM Meetings, Meetings within the ACP and at Meetings with the European Union. The Membership of CARIFORUM is Antigua & Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominica Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
It should also be noted that Jamaica will continue in the role of High Representative for the CARIFORUM/EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Jamaica will therefore also chair meetings of EPA institutions or be the spokesperson for CARIFORUM in matters related to the Agreement.
