Jamaica congratulates India on its 77th Anniversary of Independence

Caption: To commemorate the 77th Independence of India, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade attended the Indian High Commission’s National Day Bollywood Extravaganza on Tuesday, August 15.

In her toast, the Minister stated that India and Jamaica have shared a long and fruitful relationship, which is marked by friendly and active cooperation.

She noted the collaborative efforts that have been executed over the years between the two countries particularly as it relates to the Indian Technical Cooperation Programme (ITEC) for education and training, in areas of security, medicine, business and infrastructure.

She lauded India for its heavy focus placed on education, particularly in relation to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), noting that Jamaica looks forward to continued cooperation in capacity-building and training in these areas.

The Minister further acknowledged India for the high importance it has placed on regional and global cooperation, sharing that as leader in South-South cooperation and current chair of the G20, the country utilised various platforms to give special attention to CARICOM countries for developmental cooperation.
