Jamaicans in Lagos Encouraged to Invest in Jamaica

High Commissioner Esmond Reid has encouraged Jamaicans in Lagos, Nigeria, to take advantage of the opportunities for investment in Jamaica.

He was speaking at a gathering on Saturday, September 21, where approximately 80 Jamaicans and their descendants, as well as friends of Jamaica, turned out for a community meeting organized by the High Commission.

The Jamaican High Commissioner highlighted opportunities in tourism, manufacturing, information technology, mining and agriculture as some of the areas which could be considered.

“Jamaica is open for business and you should endeavor to embrace the exciting opportunities that are available,” he noted.

His Excellency also observed that there is scope to explore partnerships and projects with various Jamaican entities in areas such as tourism, health, culture, social services and education.

“Jamaica’s diplomatic relations with Nigeria were established in April 1970, and since then, our two countries have had strong bilateral cooperation in multiple areas including energy, health, craft, education and culture,” he said.

He explained that the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) hadrecently developed a National Diaspora Policy, which provides a framework for enhanced interaction between the GOJ and Jamaicans in the Diaspora.

HC Reid emphasized that his office remains committed to serving the interests of Jamaicans in Nigeria and to fostering renewed avenues for cooperation between Jamaica and Nigeria.

Staff members of the High Commission were also on hand during the meeting to address queries concerning passport, visa and other consular matters.
