Jamaica’s Mission in South Africa hosts commemorative event in observance of Jamaica’s 61st Independence

Caption: The Jamaican High Commission in South Africa marked the 61st Anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence with the hosting of two Independence Services of Thanksgiving at the St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town and the Anglican Church of the Resurrection on July 30 and August 6 respectively. The services were attended by Jamaicans residing in Cape Town and surrounding areas.

On Friday, August 11, Jamaica’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Joan Thomas Edwards hosted an Independence Reception at the Pretoria Country Club.

Attendees comprised the Diplomatic Corps, government officials, NGOS, Jamaicans resident in South Africa and friends of Jamaica.
