KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
- Monitors political, economic and social developments at the bilateral, regional and international levels in countries within a particular geographic region and/or in given regional and international organizations;
- Researches and analyses information secured from credible sources – including press releases, reports, periodicals, the internet and other relevant publications;
- Consults with counterparts in relevant Missions to obtain feedback on political and economic developments in assigned countries and/or regional and international organizations;
- Liaises regularly with relevant line Ministries, Departments and Agencies and NGOs to obtain feedback and advice on positions to be adopted by Jamaica on critical bilateral or multilateral issues;
- Prepares Cabinet Submissions and Notes, Position Papers, Briefs and Memoranda on policy issues related to area of assignment;
- Represents the Ministry at (local and overseas) meetings and conferences, as required;
- Assists with the logistical arrangements for meetings hosted by the Ministry;
- Prepares Reports on all meetings attended;
- Monitors the implementation of technical cooperation agreements signed between Jamaica and other countries/regional organizations.

- Awareness of Jamaica’s political, economic and social environment and policies
- Very good policy analysis and policy formulation skills
- Very good research and analytical skills
- Very good communication skills (oral and written)
- Very good command of the English language.
- Effective negotiating skills
- Very good interpersonal and soft skills
- Basic knowledge of Official Protocol Practices and Procedures
- Adaptability – ability to deal with unexpected circumstances, including urgent requests for information at short notice; to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and to work in new environments.
- Proficiency in Computer Applications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A First Degree (with Honours) in the Social Sciences, the Humanities, Law or the Natural Sciences.
- Proficiency in one or more of the official languages of the United Nations (Spanish, French, English, Chinese, Arabic, Russian) would be desirable/ advantageous
- Previous relevant working experience would be an asset
