JOHNSON SMITH IN BRUSSELS FOR ACP TRADE MEETINGS

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is currently in Brussels, Belgium for the 20th Meeting of the ACP Ministerial Trade Committee and the 42nd Joint ACP-EU Trade Ministers Meeting.

The Ministers will address ACP-EU trade relations, specifically the state of implementation of Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs); Brexit; Commodities and Fisheries. They will also discuss the developments in the international trade arena with respect to negotiations with Third Parties, and the EU list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions.

Preparations for the 11th WTO Ministerial Meeting will also be addressed in the context of presentations to be made by the Director-General of the WTO Roberto Azevedo and Chair of the WTO MC 11th Ambassador Susana Malcorra,.

It is also expected that the Joint Ministerial Committee will discuss ACP-EU trade relations post-2020, given the impending expiry of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement (CPA) in February 2020 and the commencement of formal negotiations next year.

The Minister, who left the island on Monday, returns on the weekend.
