Jamaica and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) are set to continue their partnership to combat the challenges faced in the country’s health sector.

This following, the presentation of credentials by Dr. Bernadette Theodore-Gandi, Representative-designate of the PAHO to Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade at the Ministry’s Head Office in New Kingston on Thursday, May 10.

Dr. Theodore Gandi’s was welcomed by the Foreign Minister who reaffirmed Jamaica’s longstanding relationship with PAHO, the specialized international health agency for the Americas.

The Minister expressed Jamaica’s appreciation of the organization’s support on upcoming projects including universal insurance. In September 2017, both parties signed a five-year country cooperation strategy agreement. The agreement is intended to strengthen Jamaica’s health system, advance universal health as well address the challenges posed by new and emerging diseases.

Dr Theodore-Gandi and the Minister also expressed their anticipation of Jamaica’s participation in the upcoming World Health Assembly in Geneva in May 2018, as well as the High Level Meetings on tuberculosis and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in New York in September 2018 respectively.
