Johnson Smith signs condolence book for Mr. Basdeo Panday, former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago

Caption: Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, marked a moment of respect and remembrance by yesterday signing the Condolence Book in memory of the late Mr. Basdeo Panday, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, who served from 1995 to 2001.

During the signing at the Trinidadian High Commission in Kingston, Minister Johnson Smith reflected on Mr. Panday’s indomitable spirit and staunch belief in education as the best path for overcoming poverty.

In representing the Government and people of Jamaica, Minister Johnson Smith conveyed profound condolences to the Government and citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, articulating these sentiments through His Excellency Deryck Murray, the High Commissioner to Jamaica.

Mr. Panday, whose State Funeral took place on January 9, 2024 in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, died on January 1. His enduring legacy as a visionary leader within CARICOM will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
