Johnson Smith to welcome Ghanaian Counterpart for Official Visit to Jamaica
Foreign Minister Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith will welcome to Jamaica her counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, the Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Saturday (January 24), for a three-day Official Visit.
“We look forward to warmly welcoming Minister Ablakwa this weekend. The visit is not only a great opportunity for him to visit with the 54 Ghana Defence Force members who are here providing excellent recovery and rebuilding support, but also an opportunity for us to advance our bilateral cooperation, bringing modern elements to our deep historical ties. Building on our five decades of diplomatic relations, our meetings will, among other matters, explore more deliberate approaches to expanding bilateral engagement across trade, investment, health, education, tourism and technical exchange,” said Johnson Smith.
Minister Johnson Smith will be joined in these engagements by her colleague Ministers of Health, Education and Culture and their respective teams.
The Ghanaian Foreign Minister will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Andrew Holness and visit the Ghanaian engineers and medical personnel who have been deployed in Jamaica since December 18, 2025.
The Government of Jamaica is committed to pursuing deeper engagement and broader collaboration with African partners across economic and people-centred areas of development.
