2nd Generation Toronto-Based Jamaican Contributes to Comfort Castle Primary and Junior High School’s Development

The Comfort Castle Primary and Junior High School will upgrade the printing and other technological services it provides to both the school and larger communities, thanks to the over J$300,000 it received from the Canada-based Tamara Gordon Foundation. Part proceeds of the funds will also go toward infrastructural improvements on the school, which hosts some 135 students in the 3-13 age range.

“Tamara Gordon suffered her own personal tragedy and in spite of it, has focussed on doing good and giving back to others. We thank her and others like her in the Diaspora, whether first or second generation Jamaicans who remember Jamaica in their charitable activities,” stated Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on Tuesday, August 27, during the cheque handover to Mr. Dalmain Moore, Principal of the Comfort Castle Primary and Junior High School at the Ministry’s offices.

Undaunted by a motor vehicle accident, which left her severely debilitated, Ms. Gordon, a second generation Jamaican, established the foundation in 2013. Primarily community-based and designed to address the needs of persons with physical disabilities within the Greater Toronto area, this Comfort Castle Outreach represents Ms. Gordon’s affiliation with and dedication to her Jamaican roots.

The cheque handover was facilitated by the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto, which, since 2015, has had a strong working relationship with the Tamara Gordon Foundation.
