Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is leading a three-member Jamaican delegation to the 22nd Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Grand Anse, St. Georges, Grenada.

The two day meeting (May 13-14), under the theme, “Leveraging the Community’s Voice in an Era of Challenges and Disorder,” is being chaired by the Hon. Peter David, the Grenadian Foreign Affairs Minister.

Minister Johnson Smith advised that COFCOR provides the main platform where CARICOM Foreign Ministers discuss and agree on initiatives and proposals aimed at increased regional foreign policy coordination and cohesion. Furthermore, that these deliberations seek to address specific developments, with the suggested policy directions then being submitted to the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government.

“We have a packed agenda as there are so many important matters for us to discuss as a region. In addition to current topical issues, CARICOM’s strategy for engaging Third Parties and International Development Partners (IDPS) for 2019-2020, which is of critical importance to the region’s development forecast, will be discussed” Minister Johnson Smith shared.

The Minister also advised that CARICOM-US relations; the upcoming Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly, Climate Change and regional Border Issues are also amongst the agenda items for the 22nd COFCOR.
