A distinguished public servant remembered for his calm leadership, commitment to service, and lasting contribution to Jamaica.
Mr. Leslie Roy Campbell, former Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and former Member of Parliament, dedicated his professional and political life to national development and the advancement of the Jamaican people. A highly respected attorney-at-law and public servant, he served in several important capacities, including Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (2020) and State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (2020 – 2022).
During his tenure with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, where he had responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Campbell played a leading role in strengthening Jamaica’s engagement with Jamaicans overseas, advancing the National Diaspora Policy, and supporting the work of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council (GJDC), and the Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council (GJDYC).
Mr. Campbell sought to deepen engagement with the Jamaican Diaspora through technology, and was instrumental in the virtual staging of the Diaspora Sustainability Symposium and the Jamaica 60 Diaspora Conference which were held in 2021 and 2022, respectively. He also represented the Ministry at the regional level in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and served as Sherpa for the UN High-level Panel for Sustainable Ocean Economy.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Campbell through the Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council and was always impressed by his warmth, sincerity, and ability to connect with others. To the family of Minister Leslie Campbell Minister Campbell was a thoughtful leader who believed in and lived the concept of holistic leadership in his time of service to the GJDC. He enabled each and everyone of us in our various roles on the Council - he listened, encouraged and advised. We are grateful to you, his family, for allowing him the space and time to work with us. His humour and philosophical perspective on life was endearing. He was kind to me when I lost by father in Jan 2022, whom he knew well and knew of his service to Jamaica. His letter to our family was thoughful, warm and caring. I will cherish it forever. I will miss him, but will hold on to his many shared gems of wisdom, memories of his sharp wit and his exemplar dedication through public service to Jamaica.
