Jamaica has seen a major reduction in the number of nationals being denied entry into Trinidad and Tobago. The downward trend is encouraging for nationals who frequently visit the island.

Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith confirmed that there has been a reduction of 31% in the number of Jamaicans denied entry into the country in 2017 when compared to the previous year.

“Based on information received from our High Commission in Port of Spain from Trinidad and Tobago Authority, in 2016, 416 Jamaicans were denied entry into Trinidad and Tobago and this was reduced to 289 in 2017” the Minister announced

With respect to Jamaicans travelling to Trinidad and Tobago, she informed that “According to the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), 63 Jamaicans were denied entry in the first quarter of 2018.

“While we cannot predict what will be obtained at the end of the year, if this trend continues, we should see a further reduction in the number of Jamaican nationals denied entry in Trinidad and Tobago”.
The Minister made this disclosure at a recent press briefing held at the Ministry’s office.
