Caption: Dr. Kathy Brown, Member of the Tribunal for the International Law of the Sea presented at the Ministry’s Biennial Lecture on “Jamaica’s Role in the Multilateral System, with special focus on the Law of the Sea” on Tuesday, October 18.
Dr. Brown noted the importance of multilateralism as well as the threats to multilateralism. She also underscored the importance of Jamaica’s engagement in the multilateral system, stating that often times this importance is not appreciated by the public.
In speaking about the role that multilateralism plays, Dr. Brown made reference to the Jamaican Government establishing the Foreign Ministry in 1962, as one of the first prerequisites for self-government. She further cited Minister Johnson Smith’s statement on multilateralism, noting “we must continue to make significant contributions to abs ardently promote multilateral cooperation and international law.”
The hybrid lecture was hosted by the Foreign Ministry, and was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as staff. This lecture is the second in the series and forms part of the Ministry’s celebratory activities for MFAFT @ 60.
