Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Chair, Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) at today’s (July 13) Flag Raising Ceremony at the Ministry, headquartered in the Hugh Lawson Shearer Building, Downtown Kingston, to observe CARICOM’s 50th Anniversary.
The Minister noted that: “CARICOM has aimed to improve the lives of the people of the region, particularly through functional cooperation in health, education, security, among others.”
In reporting on the recently concluded 45th CARICOM Conference of Heads, the Minister shared that an important outcome of that meeting was the agreement to work towards a 31st March 2024 full implementation of the Free Movement of all CARICOM nationals within the Community.
In addition to Ministry staff, participants included: a representative from the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), CARICOM Youth Ambassadors, members of the #Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (JCCF) and a representative from the Opposition.
