On 16th September 2019, the United Nations (UN) adopted by consensus resolution put forward by Jamaica and Belgium, in support of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Centenary Declaration for the Future of Work.

In introducing the resolution, Jamaica’s UN Ambassador, Courtenay Rattray, who Co-Chairs the UN Group of Friends of Decent Work for Sustainable Development, noted that the resolution stresses that full and productive employment and decent work for all are key elements of sustainable development and should remain a priority objective of both national policies and international cooperation.

The Centenary Declaration marks the 100th anniversary of the ILO and highlights its achievements and historic role in promoting social justice and a human centered approach to the future of work. It also underscores the importance of promoting the acquisition of skills, competencies and qualifications for all workers throughout their working lives; and emphasizes the role of the private sector as a principal source of economic growth and job creation.
