Caption:  Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade recently attended a reception to commemorate the 63rd National Day of Nigeria held under the theme, “Nigeria @ 63: Renewed Hope for Unity & Prosperity.”

In delivering her toast, Minister Johnson Smith noted that Jamaica and Nigeria have maintained active levels of bilateral cooperation, particularly in health, education, culture and capacity-building. She noted Nigeria’s Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Programme, which she said, “have benefitted from the deployment of Nigerian specialist nurses, master artisans, tutors and teachers to Jamaica.”

The Minister also recalled the direct charter flight from Lagos to Montego Bay in 2020, noting that it will facilitate more opportunities for increased trade and investment– an area of priority for both countries and regions.

She further commended Nigeria for its cultural and creative industries, particularly the ‘Nollywood’ cinematic productions.

The Minister also acknowledged Jamaica and Nigeria’s celebration of their 53rd anniversary of diplomatic relations earlier this year.
