Johnson Smith attends reception to celebrate Korea National Foundation Day and the Diamond Jubilee of Korea and Jamaica diplomatic relations

Republic of Korea hosted a reception to celebrate Korea National Foundation Day and the Diamond Jubilee of Korea and Jamaica diplomatic relations on Friday, October 7.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith who delivered a toast at the event, lauded Korea for its success as a game-changer in the arenas of electronics, semiconductors, motor vehicles, telecommunications and ship-building.

At the bilateral level, the Minister noted the assistance received by Jamaica through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). This includes Human Capacity-Building, Land Registration, Administration and Management, Customs Modernization, Animation, the development of the National Identification System (NIDS), among others.

Johnson Smith cited Korea’s investment in Jamaica’s Energy Sector as well as Jamaican students visiting Korea to pursue courses and programmes at different levels, as among the tangible outcomes of the Jamaica-Korea relationship.
