Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade handed over a cheque for US$4000 to Christine Staple-Ebanks for her Nathan Ebanks Foundation, today (Thursday, January 21) at the Ministry’s Headquarters in New Kingston.
On hand for the presentation were Senator the Honourable Arnold J. Nicholson, QC, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and His Excellency Ralph Thomas, Jamaican Ambassador to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS).
The cheque represents part proceeds from the OAS Organisation of Women of the Americas’ (OWA) Annual Food Festival of the Americas’ fundraising event, which was held in May 2015 at the OAS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Nathan Ebanks Foundation, which was recommended by the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the OAS, was selected by OWA as one of 3 beneficiaries chosen in 2015 to receive a donation to assist in its mission of capacity building of parents, teachers and other caregivers of children with physical and mental disabilities
Minister Nicholson thanked the Foundation for “playing its part in raising the public awareness level of children with disabilities.”
At the same time, Ambassador Thomas in congratulating the Foundation for being selected noted that he looked “forward to the report of the positive impact that the project, funded by this donation, will bring to these special needs children.”
The Nathan Ebanks Foundation was co-founded in 2007 by Christine Staple Ebanks and her husband, Robert, whose son Nathan, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at nine-months old.
The Foundation’s mandate is to ensure that all children, particularly children with disabilities and special needs, are included, empowered and supported in their efforts to access and participate in holistic development, on the journey to realising their full potential.
