Johnson Smith discusses improvement of public security and safety in Jamaica with the cooperation of the USA

Caption:  Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade received a Courtesy Call from Ambassador Victoria Nuland, Under-Secretary for Political Affairs for the State Department of the USA on Tuesday, November 15.

During the meeting, the Minister spoke about the importance of the Jamaica-USA partnership, noting the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries.

She also commended the strong Jamaican diaspora in the USA, which she says, “provides a great deal of engagement, and potential in terms of synergies related to US Investment.” She also applauded the diaspora’s contribution to the US economy as well as to Jamaica’s.

The Minister also highlighted Jamaica’s efforts to improve public security and safety with the cooperation of the USA. Minister Johnson Smith also apprised the Ambassador about the current measures employed to stem gun crimes in Jamaica.

Discussions also included the situation in Haiti.
