Johnson Smith toasts Panama on its 201st Anniversary of Independence

Caption: On the occasion of Panama’s 201st Anniversary of Independence from Spain, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sen. the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith attended a reception last evening (Nov.24).

 

In her toast, the Minister noted that, “Panama has a reputation for socio-economic advancements that have been buoyed by the famous engineering feat, the Panama Canal, Copa Airlines and Tocumen Airport, thereby positioning the country as a major player in trade and logistics, and as a gateway to the Americas and to the world.”

She further commended Panama “for the constructive role the country has played in strengthening our bilateral relations over the years. We have partnered in the fields of education, maritime development and community tourism.”

Johnson Smith stated that Jamaica’s partnership with Panama is also buttressed at the regional level, which she said, “bear testimony to the importance that Panama attaches to hemispheric and South–South cooperation.”
