Minister Johnson Smith engages in bilateral talks with Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs

Caption: On the margins of the 26th Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR), Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith engaged in bilateral talks with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, His Excellency Shunsuke Takei.

Both Ministers pledge to bolster the “J-J cooperation”, noting the commemoration of their countries 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations as well as Japan-CARICOM Friendship year in 2024.

Minister Johnson Smith reiterated appreciation for Japan’s continued support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) programme as well as the assistance provided in the health sector particularly in the COVID pandemic.

During the Opening Ceremony of the 26th Meeting of COFCOR on Tuesday, May 16, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith reiterated the importance of CARICOM member states working with development partners and regional groupings to achieve what she describes as equitable meaningful solutions, which will redound to the benefit of the people of the region.
