Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, received a Courtesy Call from His Excellency Guy Sevrin, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Jamaica, yesterday (Tuesday, March 29) at the Ministry’s New Kingston offices.
The Ambassador’s visit came exactly one week after the terror attacks in Brussels.
Minister Johnson Smith took the opportunity to convey, once again, sympathies and condolences on behalf of the Jamaican people.
The Minister asserted, “We are being attacked as democracies, and though we are small countries, we must all stand together in the fight against terrorism.”
Ambassador Sevrin expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support received in the wake of the terrorist attacks, from Minister Johnson Smith and other government representatives.
Other matters addressed in the Courtesy Call included continued cooperation efforts between Jamaica and Belgium, especially in the area of urban transportation.
Jamaica and Belgium will commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations in July 2017.
