SERVICES SUSPENDED AT JAMAICAN CONSULATE IN HAITI – JOHNSON SMITH

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade wishes to advise that services have been suspended at the Jamaican Consulate in Port-au-Prince.

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said:

“We deeply regret to inform that the Sun Auto Car Dealership in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, owned and operated by the Honorary Consul for Jamaica, and which houses the Consulate, was set ablaze and ransacked by criminal gangs late Monday evening (June 12).

I have conveyed my sympathy and deep concern for the safety of the Honorary Consul and his staff, even as he assesses the impact of the loss and disruption to his operations.

As a consequence of the incident, consular services have been suspended indefinitely.

The Government of Jamaica re-affirms its steadfast commitment to actively support efforts aimed at returning Haiti to the peace and prosperity its people deserve.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will continue to safeguard the welfare and safety of Jamaican citizens abroad. Urgent consular queries from Haiti will now have to be directed to the Ministry’s Consular Affairs Department at email: consular@mfaft.gov.jm or via WhatsApp at +1-876-391-8105
