Johnson Smith welcomes the official opening of the Inaugural Dominica Week in Jamaica and the first Dominican Republic Business Forum

Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on Tuesday, Feb 21 welcomed the Official Opening of the Inaugural Dominican Week in Jamaica and the Inaugural Dominican Republic-Jamaican Business Forum, noting that Jamaica is “very pleased and proud of the convening of this long-awaited Business Forum.”

Speaking at the event, the Minister shared that in 2020, 🇯🇲 & 🇩🇴 signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which established a Joint Working Group on Trade, Investment and Production Chains, to strengthen our economic and commercial relationship.

The Minister advised that during this first staging of Dominican Week in Jamaica, “we will all witness the establishment of the Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic in Jamaica (DOMREPCHAM-JA).”

The Minister also lauded the existing relations between Jamaica and Dominican Republic, which she describes as a “solid (bilateral) platform.” She reiterated that “our common desire for the advancement of our peoples and businesses have indeed laid a solid foundation for today’s and this week’s proceedings.”
