Consul General-Designate pays farewell call to Minister Johnson Smith

 Mr. Lincoln Downer, Consul General-designate for Toronto, Canada, shared some operational plans for the Consulate General, during his Farewell Call on Sen. The Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade on Tuesday, July 28. Included in these plans are: a stronger relationship with the youth in the Diaspora in Canada, including university students and improved marketing of the Consulate, including its online passport renewal.

 

For her part, the Minister reminded of the importance of the community/Consulate General relationship. “It is important that the community is part of the Consulate General and that the Consulate General is part of the community.” Minister Johnson Smith also noted that Mr. Downer contributed to the improved Jamaica-Diaspora relationship in recent years. “The Diaspora feels more engaged than before and this would not have been accomplished without yours and your department’s support.

Mr. Downer is scheduled to take up his post in mid-August, 2020.
