Jamaica and Cuba hold discussions on strengthening cooperation between the two countries

Caption: Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith met with the Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Fermin Quiñones Sánchez on Tuesday, August 8.

 

During the discussions, the Minister congratulated Cuba on the country’s assumption of the Chairmanship of the G77+China and expressed confidence that Cuba will use its platform to advocate on behalf of its Caribbean neighbours and by extension Small Island Developing States (SIDS) on issues of shared interest and concern.

Discussions also included deepening technical cooperation between Jamaica and Cuba in areas of climate change and agriculture.

The Minister further conveyed appreciation for Cuba’s recent offer of 21 scholarships to Jamaican students interested in studying in Cuba for the upcoming 2024 school year.
