Jamaican Ambassador to Japan presents Letter of Introduction to Australian Prime Minister

Caption:  Her Excellency Shorna-Kay Richards presented her Letter of Introduction to the Honourable Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, in Canberra on Thursday, March 27, formally accrediting her as non-resident High Commissioner for Jamaica to Australia.

During the presentation, the High Commissioner spoke about the fruitful relationship between Jamaica and Australia at both the bilateral and multilateral levels. The discussion touched on shared interests and priorities in areas including sports, climate change, oceans, development finance, trade, disarmament, and international security.

The full visit to Australia from 26 – 30 March 2023 allowed for several other official and Diaspora related engagements. These included a call on the Honourable Tim Watts MP, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs as well as meetings with senior officials at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the Department of Defence.

The High Commissioner used the opportunity to engage with the Jamaican community in Canberra and Sydney with support from Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Sydney (Marco Breakenridge) and the Jamaican Association of Australia led by founding President, Dr. Stephanie Fletcher-Lartey.

Jamaica and Australia will mark 50 years of diplomatic relations in January 2024.
