Johnson Smith welcomes promotion of ocean literacy with the launch of book, “Life Under Water: We Love Our Ocean Pre-School Companion”

Caption: Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade Minister, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith says Jamaica as a member state of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), welcomes the promotion of ocean literacy among the general population, and particularly among the youth and children.

 

The Minister’s remarks follows, as the ISA today (April 4) launched the book “Life Under Water: We Love Our Ocean Pre-School Companion”.

According to Johnson Smith, “the Government fully endorses and supports these activities and looks forward to our continued effective collaboration with the ISA to provide informative and educational facts about our collective responsibility to the ocean – the common heritage of mankind.”

The Minister also commended Secretary-General of ISA, Michael Lodge and his team for “the innovation, creativity and commitment to partnership which informed the development of this activity booklet for use at the early childhood level.”

The book is written in three of the official languages of the ISA – English, Spanish and French. The Minister notes that this represents added value for its users, who from an early stage can develop their facility in another language.
