Minister Terrelonge meets with Jamaica’s High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria

Caption: Jamaica’s High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria, Mr. Lincoln Downer paid a Courtesy Call on Minister of State with responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, the Honourable Alando Terrelonge earlier today (Oct 5).

 

The Minister congratulated Mr. Downer, noting that he is well placed to execute his mandate given his wealth of experience, particularly with diaspora related matters.

Reflecting on Africa’s rich history, the Minister conveyed Jamaica’s interest in establishing greater connection with ‘the Motherland,’ through the retention of African art, craft and culture. This, he asserted would instil black pride and position Jamaica as an ideal tourism and investment destination.

The State Minister also expressed the desire to establish direct flights between Africa and Jamaica, to facilitate greater economic partnership, tourism, and cultural exchanges between West Africa and Jamaica

Issues affecting the diaspora and plans for the 2024 Diaspora Conference were discussed.

As it relates to Economic Diplomacy, the dignitaries weighed in on opportunities for increased trade with Africa.
