Outgoing Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica bids Johnson Smith Farewell

Caption: Outgoing Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica, His Excellency Masaya Fujiwara this morning (Nov 29) paid a farewell call to Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith.

 

The Minister commended the Ambassador for his successful tenure. She noted that despite arriving during the COVID-19 pandemic, he not only facilitated the first visit of a Japanese Foreign Minister to Jamaica, but also provided assistance to Jamaica under the Grassroots and Human Security Programme, which has benefitted the health and education sectors.

She also congratulated the Ambassador for what she described as reigniting the J-J Partnership in areas including health and investment.

She welcomed continued engagement to explore opportunities for cooperation between the Jamaica Special Economic Zone Authority (JSEZA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) around smart city development.

They also pledged their countries cooperation in the areas of renewable energy, security and agriculture.
