Chile celebrates 209 years of Nationhood

To commemorate The Republic of Chile’s 209th Anniversary of Independence, the Chilean Ambassador, His Excellency Francisco Bernales and wife, Senora del Rio hosted a reception at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on September 9.

In her toast, Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, lauded Chile for its strong leadership on ambitious climate action. “I must acknowledge and commend the Government of Chile for its commitment to assisting the Caribbean region in building climate change resilience.”

She noted too, that as a bilateral partner, Chile continues to support Jamaica’s vision of economic growth and sustainable development through its contribution to key areas, including disaster risk reduction, environmental management, citizen security, the promotion of Spanish as a Second Language and diplomacy.

Jamaica and Chile enjoy fifty four years of diplomatic relations.
