Foreign Minister, Sen. The Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, joined the Hon. Christine Hoebes, Minister in the Presidency of Namibia and the Hon. Itah Kandji-Murangi, Namibian Minister of Higher Education, on a tour of the National Gallery given by its Chief Curator, O’Neil Lawrence (August 2).

Caption:  On Tuesday, August 2, Foreign Affairs Minister attended a reception held in honour of the Nigerian Foreign Minister, His Excellency Geoffrey Onyeama, on his official visit to Jamaica.

In her toast, the Minister noted the honour that Jamaica attributes to having Minister Onyeama celebrating Emancipation in Jamaica.

She stated, “Jamaica and Nigeria have a special friendship that exceeds the establishment of diplomatic relations in April 1970. We share inextricable bonds of kinship, culture and history, stretching back to Jamaica’s ancestors from the Bight of Biafra along the Atlantic Coast of Nigeria. It is fitting, therefore, that as we recall our journey as enslaved peoples and of being emancipated, that we should be doing so in your presence, Minister Onyeama.”
