Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, received her counterpart, His Excellency Nikolaos Dendias, at her offices, for a bilateral meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters today, prior to the signing. She highlighted that the MOU “signifies our commitment to deepen bilateral engagement between our countries. Jamaica and Greece are starting a new chapter in our bilateral relationship.”

Johnson Smith also noted that, “this is also a very special occasion for Jamaican-Greek relations as this is the first time that a Greek Foreign Minister is visiting Jamaica. It is a pleasure to welcome Minister Dendias and to build on our prior engagement during UN High Level Week last year. This MOU provides a more solid foundation to increase cooperation in the areas of education, tourism, maritime and the blue economy, as well exploration of trade and investment opportunities.”

For his part, H.E. Nikolaos Dendias, Greek Foreign Minister, expressed his satisfaction at the development of relations between our countries noting that, he was thrilled and extremely happy to be the first Greek Foreign Minister to visit Jamaica.

The meeting coincides with a visit of local officials from Sitia, a town in Crete, to complete the twinning of that city with Montego Bay.
